a sigh drains from her, and her lips are spreading in a wide smile and yet, it isn’t about happiness. it’s fatigue at a greater issue than just cases and cups of coffee, seeping through. it’s like he’s proven her right, and her voice sounds like she’s been let down, though not by harvey in particular.

’   you see? you didn’t take it right away.   ’   she thinks she would have. she thinks she would have at least tried to help where help was necessary. an old man near his death and if it wasn’t death in the next year then it would be a financial struggle—-it wasn’t glamorous. some would say it was hardly worth the fight if he was dead the next day. ’   —-is it the profile? ……is he not big enough?   ’

Brows knit together in CURIOSITY– expecting the doctor to begin explaining this case. No doubt it has something do to with wills or next-of-kin. And while, he’s only speculating at this point, it’s NOT a case he think he can take. It’s not his SPECIALTY, and he has a state he has to ANSWER to. He would do anything to help– especially one so INVOLVED in the GCPD, but he has people he HAS to answer to, as well. If he didn’t, he’d be a freelance attorney… and making WAY more money than he is now. Suddenly, the coffee is tasting a LITTLE too bitter.

Doctor Thompkins, he begins– RATHER confused at her… frustration? Disappointment? “ The ONLY thing I know about this case is that an elderly man has stage four cancer. You haven’t EXACTLY given me much of a case to GO off of. Secondly, my job revolves around the state. All of my cases have to filter through the juries. Unless a charge or some criminal act was involved, then it’s OUT of my hands. Thirdly, I try and do cases of all shapes and sizes. A too-polite smile follows. If ONLY she knew of the MULTIPLE people he gets through his office every hour. If there was something related to a charge or an offense, than it can be considered. If not, I would suggest finding the man a DEFENSE attorney. Not a DISTRICT attorney, doctor. I have some recommendations I’d love to give you.

’   uh-huh. every morning.   ’ she already has her back to him, turned to scatter the clicks of her heels down the hall. but she stops and swivels to him, pauses there with a hooked brow and a look on her face. slowly, lee kicks off back towards him. that simple coffee had come out of her good thought. she had never meant to ask him anything, but a personal matter jumped right at her from the back of her mind.

’   say… harvey… given how busy i imagine you to be, would you represent a seventy-four-year-old man diagnosed with stage four cancer?   ’

Oh- Okay. Thanks. He’ll take a SIP from the Styrofoam cup- the heat from the liquid WARMING him from the inside out. And he’s GRATEFUL for people like Lee- who went OUT of their way to be kind.

Yep? ” The DA turns, tilting his head CURIOUSLY Ummm… Dent runs a hand down his CHIN in thought.  That depends. What’s the case? ”

stretches arm out and points-—           ‘   that’s coffee, and it’s yours.   ‘         because she thought of him and she bought it.

He’s tired– no– he’s EXHAUSTED. ON TOP of keeping a city pieced together, the attorney SUFFERS from INSOMNIA… most nights, anyways. And LAST NIGHT only ONE HOUR throughout the eight came with REST. Dark brows knit in MILD confusion, but as well as APPRECIATION. Cops weren’t NICE in the morning ; hell, no one WAS, but this was a… PLEASENT change up.

Uh…  he takes the foam cup between CHILLY palms.  Thanks. I really appreciate it. Is the captain IN? ”
